There are currently two OpenIndiana distributions. One which can be considered rather stable - /dev branch (oi_151a9). We don't call it "stable", because we think that "stable" branch should recieve security fixes on regular basis. But it's not always true for /dev. The other branch is /hipster branch, which uses rolling-release model. It usually ships more up-to-date illumos-gate and userland software. But it's pure development distribution. As there's a lot of ongoing work for migration from old build systems to oi-userland and some soft in OpenIndiana /dev can be rather outdated, /hipster receive major  updates. As result, breakages can happen. So, use it with care.
