My Heartiest congratulations to OpenIndiana Team for release of OI151a8.
Thank you, thank you and thank you to all those who have constantly, untiringly worked as a team and brought the release. I have yet no downloaded the ISO.
Keep it up Sir.
Please tell me how to donate to OI so that I can donate. Though it may not be big amount. However, I shall try to donate generously.
What is the minimum amount one should donate to OI.
Again many many congratulations on this grand success.
Regards and best of luck to OI team.

see http://bugs.openindiana.org/ , after a relatively seamless update I notice some problems with pkg:just in case you have tried the jds.openindiana.org bits, make sure you have removed it from your pkg publisher and reset as sticky http://pkg.openindiana.org/dev/
Other than that the upgrade seems ok... checking out now why there are a number of things the don't respect i18n... (tooltips in gnome on the menubar for example).

Excellent work JT, two questions.

Hi,
if i run updates (like described in https://www.illumos.org/issues/4035 bug), i got (almost) exactly same problem.

Congratulations for the release!
I had tried 151a7 + pkg update to /hipster before.
Now on this rig I d/l the live iso of 151a8 and installed. I just don't get why I don't have access to gcc 4.7 and the build-essential metapackage directly like with hipster. I need to change the publisher to replace /dev to /hipster on top of 151a8??? I don't get this. Should I replace the provider altogether with /hipster or add /hipster as another source for pkg.openindiana.org?? Seems when I added /hipster on top of /dev, IPS didn't like that when I updated, exited with an error on some locale package, and I rolled back using zfs to the initial install.
What is it I don't get here?
Thanks.

I'm very happy to hear news from OpenIndiana!!
Thank you for all the work OpenIndiana Team

OI151a8 :
small issues which need to be fixed are as follows :
Espen Martinsen
Download last supported flashplayer4solaris from
http://fpdownload.macromedia.com/get/flashplayer/installers/archive/fp_11.2.202.228_archive.zip
(for solaris this is build 223)
unpack libflashplayer.so and place it in ~/.mozilla/plugins
works on both FF 10.x and FF23.x
Predrag Zečević
Hi all,
i have joined HTML5 program (http://www.youtube.com/html5) so at least some youtube clips are working again.
Regards.
Predrag Zečević
And if you watch mostly youtube, you can disable flashplayer and use
hsi add-on: https://addons.mozilla.org/en/firefox/addon/youtube-all-html5/
Regards.

Gaetano Valboa: Why is this post important, if only saying that upgrade went OK?
ajit bakre
To,
The developers of OI:
My installation of OI151a8 was successful, however, Download and Documents folder.are mssing from GNOME:
Why these important folders are removed?
Since OI is basically an excellent platform for development of application programs as well as system programming then why not include following software in the install DVD:
gpatrick
There are finite resources of only a few people who do any development on OI, so if you want something that isn't there like Vanilla or Drupal, then you need to step up and create the package yourself.
Adobe also fails for me. If it concerned me I would go back to 151a7.
If you want Gnome upgraded then do it.
I have Netbeans installed because I downloaded it and installed it.
As for question number 10. It will never happen so stop asking about it! There was a discussion about it recently on oi-dev and it went nowhere. Recall there are only a few people doing development, so there aren't resources to handle a dev and stable release, besides the experimental hipster that is going on.
You need to realize that OI doesn't have a corporate sponsor. It doesn't have many (a few) developers. It doesn't have an income stream.
If you want something then do it. Join oi-dev and/or oi-discuss and ask question there because you won't get many replies here. If you want to know the state of OI, then go to the main home page and you will see the twitter feed has been removed and links are all pointing to old pages which are years old. It isn't maintained.
OI UK Support Community
Hi,
my honest appreciation to bring the great OpenIndiana a step forward to the next release.
Over the past 2 months I have built and released over 80 packages for OpenIndiana.
more info and how to access the repository can be found at the OpenIndiana UK Support Community:
http://www.openindiana.co.uk
The repository is available at:
http://pkg.openindiana.co.uk
All the packages we have built for the Sun Solaris OS are still available at:
http://www.sunfreepacks.com
Please note:
the repository of sunfreepacks.com will be merged to the openindiana.co.uk repository until end of this year (hopefully, when I got the time)..
Best Regards from Germany!
Dave.

Hi Dave,
My sincere gratitude to you for doing much needed boost to OI community. I am not from Software profession, on the contrary I am from Biological Sciences and have developed liking for OpenSolaris in 2010 when I just requested the SUN to send me CD of Opensolaris while I was looking for suitable alternative to windows. However, Opensolaris is far from what windows is today. The striking difference being that Opensolaris is extremely consistent during operation and use. Much much better than windows but not general purpose OS like windows. But still I explored further.
And then OI was launched. It is heartening to note that OI has maintained the development process even though it is at snails pace as Patrik says and replies to me on this page quite often. However, it seems that the OI development work is picking up gradually due to communities like yours and I am sure one day we may have stable OI which will be accepted by Linux communities.
Thank you for your valuable contribution,
Ajit Bakre

Dear Openindiana developer community and users,
Well, it seems that oi development is going at a very slow but steady pace. However, as has been seen in the recent comments, we have to find the objective of OI ---

Hi, just a hint.
I've re-installed a 151_a8 from scratch and noticed I could not get evolution (email-client) adddressbook (e-addressbook-factory) working.
#pkg install berkeleydb-5
..fixed this.
Keep up the good work.
(anyone found out why evolution cannot click on links anymore? (Operation not supported)(popup-box)
