Note for NVIDIA GeForce/Quadro product users:

All hardware platforms with the following video graphics configuration are recommended for full hardware-accelerated 2D/3D graphics support:

  • Nvidia GeForce 8-series and above

NOTE: Most drivers contain a list of supported GPU products. Some manufacturers incorporate hardware designs not supported by the video driver, in particular, notebook and all-in-one desktop designs with switchable (hybrid) or Optimus graphics. Please consult the manufacturer for further information. Otherwise, use the VESA (vgatext) driver option.

Better separate GT210 from GT220 in the list then, since my GT220 certainly works with the 270 beta driver ! -Guy

  2. It's important to list the ones that don't work as well.  Otherwise people will keep

trying them again and again.  It also encourages people to fix the bugs that

prevent them from working.  Can the non-working cards be listed on another page,

if they're not suitable for this one?

what graphic adapter the illumos/oracle kernel uses as the default in laptop with NVIDIA Optimus technology?

On linux the intel integrated graphic is the default, and the discrete graphic card NVIDIA can be used only with many workarounds.
Installing the proprietary nvidia drivers does not change the default graphic card.

Anyone have tried the new DELL/ASUS laptop?
I think having an integrated intel graphic chip and optimus technology you can run openindiana only with VESA driver.

    thx in advance.

I purchased a Geforce GT210 a couple of weeks ago and installed it this week. I found that with the "nv" driver, it overheated and shut down my system. The "nvidia" driver didn't work at all.

After the failure with the GT210, I purchased and installed the GT 520. It works like a charm with the "nvidia" driver.

  6. I just purchased and installed an Asus GeForce 210 Silent card. It works fine.

This is the cheapest card I have been able to find that supports VDPAU feature set C, by the way, so I recommend it.

  7. I know this might be a bit off topic ,But I can not find the "xorg.conf" file anywhere. Its not in /etc that I can see & I noticed on the cd that its was placed in the users home folder or Jack I think it was.I want to try a different driver instead of what I have setup which I think is vesa.
    Thanks AnyOne

    1. Try /etc/X11/xorg.conf - that's on my test box... I did not use X11 much, so can't help further :\

  8. Has anybody attempted to use the Intel HD 4000, or any other Intel CPU-Integrated graphics processor, on OpenIndiana? Thank You.

  9. GF 110 (GTX 580, MSI TwinFrozr card) is perfectly operational under oi_151a4 (with nvidia 295.49). Without load (gnome desktop, all effects switched off) the GPU clocked down to 50 MHz and becomes as cool as ambient environment (difference is about several degrees). The mplayer -vo vdpau consumes almost no CPU. GL hacks from xscreensaver work. And I can compile and run my OpenGL apps.

  10. Nvidia GeForce FX5200 works well with 173.14.xx

  11. I am having no problems with GetForce GT 430 oios8
