      I'm in the same boat and trying to locate an 802.11n PCI and/or PCI-E card for a desktop running Open Indiana 147 or 148.

      Check out this Wikipedia Link for some ideas.

      I'm told but have not confirmed that the 300MBs, 11n-compatible TOP LINK TL-WN851N/TL-WN851ND are compatible with both Linux and Solaris due to them using an Aetheros chip AR5416.

        I wrote the original comment but didn't have a wiki account at the time.

        The TL-WN821N worked in a completely plug-and-play fashion on a Ubuntu 11.04 system, which led me to at least give it a try on my oi_148 laptop. No dice.

        Would be nice to have an assortment of known good affordable/fast/available WiFi adapters that work with oi.

          Received and installed a TP-LINK TL-WN851N card into my Shuttle SG31G2 PC and it ran flawlessly out-of-the-box on Ubuntu 11.04 Desktop.

          Had been told by the folks at Think Penguin that TL-WN851N also worked with Solaris but when I tried it with the oi148 Live DVD, Open Indiana responded that the driver for the Atheros 92XX wireless chip was Unknown.

          It looks like a complete crap shoot when trying to get wireless cards working in OI, though I'll try to see if I can locate an manually install/test the arn driver for Atheros 9xxx-class chipsets.

      The issue to support Broadcom 802.11n devices registered more then year ago https://www.illumos.org/issues/182

      Just we need a man who can port it for illumos...

      A project to add support for newer Broadcom devices with NDIS wrapper and x86_64 capability was done this spring by Jean-Pierre Andre, it is now in "testing" phase. Likely, the binary drivers will never be distributed, because they use code by Broadcom, but users may use the NDIS wrapper and original drivers for Windows (of particular versions) to compile their own bcmndis. Details, and the NDIS-wrapper code published for testing, are here: https://www.illumos.org/issues/3367; note that only WEP security is supported at this time.

      Pure open-source drivers with complete OS support (including WPA2 security) would be a separate project, not done yet.

    Intel 4965agn works in oi_151 with iwk driver.

    In order to join hidden network, however, you need to add the BSSID (AP MAC) manually; adding just the ESSID didn't work for me. Doing the following below doesn't work as well:

    1. pfexec dladm create-secobj -c wpa private_key1
    2. pfexec dladm connect-wifi -k private_key1 -e private_wifi iwk0
