Current status

  • Xorg 1.19.5 has been integrated for 2017.10.
  • Glamor support was dropped for now due to compilation issues.
  • Mesa 13.0.6 is used for now and update to Mesa 17 is expected.

Ports tree

All the Xorg components are build in oi-userland and located in the x11 directory:

https://github.com/OpenIndiana/oi-userland/tree/oi/hipster/components/x11

A bogus component is provided to rebuild the X11 gate:

https://github.com/OpenIndiana/oi-userland/tree/oi/hipster/components/x11/x11-gate

The upstream Solaris gate is located at:

Testing repository

This repository contains Xorg 1.18.4 and some driver updates which are now merged into 2017.04:

Be careful to add this repository as preferred to avoid reverting to older Xorg modules!

VirtualBox guest additions

If running OpenIndiana (OI) in a VirtualBox virtual machine it may be useful to install VirtualBox guest additions so that one can copy and paste text between the guest operating system (OpenIndiana) and the host operating system, or change the resolution of OI, or so that the host and guest operating systems can share files. To do so merely:

  1. Insert the VirtualBox guest additions ISO by going to Devices→Insert Guest Additions CD Image.
  2. Run in a terminal:

    cd /media/VBOXADDITIONS*
    sudo pkgadd -d VBoxSolarisAdditions.pkg
  3. Reboot.

Steps 1-3 will need to redone whenever one performs a distribution update in which the version of Xorg being used is changed.

Xorg 1.19.x

Until VirtualBox additions are provided for Xorg 1.19, users are advised to updated their xorg.conf to use vesa:

Section "Device"
	Identifier "Card0"
	Driver "vesa"
EndSection
